Delle Donne's talent has never been in question, as she's proven to be one of the most productive players in the league during her career, winning MVP awards in 2015 and 2019. However, health has been a concern, as she sat out the 2020 campaign amid the COVID-19 pandemic and hasn't appeared in more than 25 games in any of the past three seasons. The 34-year-old maintained well-rounded production when on the court last year, averaging 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 27.5 minutes per game over 23 appearances. Delle Donne received a core qualifying offer from the Mystics in January, but she announced in February that she's stepping away from basketball and doesn't intend to sign the one-year, supermax contract offered as a core player. It's not yet clear when or if she plans to return to the court, but it seems safe to assume that she'll miss most or all of the 2024 campaign. Delle Donne decided Wednesday to take time away from basketball and doesn't intend to sign the one-year, supermax contract she was offered by the Mystics, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com reports.

Delle Donne has spent the last six seasons with the Mystics but appears to be stepping away from the WNBA entirely in 2024. The 34-year-old forward averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 27.5 minutes across 23 appearances last year. While Delle Donne's future is uncertain, no retirement plans have officially been announced. The Mystics will retain her rights after offering her a core qualifying offer in mid-January, but she'll undoubtedly draw plenty of interest if Washington allows her to seek out other options upon a potential return to play.

There's no question Delle Donne has the talent still to be one of the WNBA's elite players, but she's had enough back problems over the last few seasons that will always be a cause for concern. Delle Donne appeared in 25 games for the Mystics last season and returned to near her usual standards, tallying 17.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 48.0 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from deep. Delle Donne suggested she's feeling great and shouldn't require rest days in 2023, so assuming she can stay healthy, the veteran is worth a starting lineup spot in essentially all formats and a selection within the first 2-3 rounds depending on league size.
Delle Donne is a case where she's among the better fantasy options in the league when healthy, but the problem is she hasn't been healthy since 2019. Over the last two seasons, Delle Donne has managed to suit up for just three total games due to a lingering back issue. She's confident in her health entering 2022, but it's undoubtedly a proceed-with-caution scenario with some built-in risk. It's also challenging to know how much Delle Donne's missed time will impact her game, and it wouldn't be shocking if she takes some time off or plays fewer minutes in games to stay healthy for the long haul. However, Delle Donne's last complete season yielded 19.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 blocks over 29.1 minutes per game, so there is plenty of upside to cite along with the risk.
