Huge mistake leads to first loss
Light HeavyweightUFC
May 4, 2024
Petrino lost to Anthony Smith via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:00 of Round 1 at UFC 301 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
This is Petrino's first professional defeat, and it was entirely his own doing. Simply put, he made a mistake that you can make at this level. Blessed with an overwhelming power and speed edge over Smith on the feet, Petrino damaged his opponent early and then foolishly grabbed Smith along the fence and went for a slam. Being the veteran that he is, Anthony immediately clamped on the guillotine choke, and Vitor was tapping out seconds later. You want to give Petrino a bit of a pass considering he's still just 26 years of age and has all of a dozen pro bouts under his belt, but this mistake is going to make a potential run to the top that much more difficult.

Petrino is set to take on Anthony Smith at UFC 301 in Brazil on May 4, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Petrino has had a hot start since joining the company, as he is riding a four-fight winning streak into this bout. Two of his victories were via unanimous decision, while the other two were TKO and submission. He will put his undefeated record on the line against Anthony Smith, who is looking to bounce back from losing four of his five previous fights.

Petrino defeated Tyson Pedro via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was an underwhelming effort from both men, but especially from Petrino considering he entered as upwards of a -400 favorite. This fight very easily could have been tied at a round a piece, at which point Vitor was finally able to get his wrestling game going. He connected on 3-of-4 takedown attempts in Round 3 alone, good for 4:08 of control time, ensuring he would win the decision. We've seen Petrino have some big offensive outbursts in the past, so perhaps this was simply an off night for the 26-year-old Brazilian. It's impossible to argue with his 4-0 record with the UFC, in addition to a knockout win on Dana White's Contender Series, that Petrino is due a bump up in competition his next time out.

Petrino is scheduled to compete against Tyson Pedro in a light heavyweight fight at UFC Vegas 87 on March 2, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
For Petrino's first fight of 2024, he is scheduled to fight Pedro, currently 6-4 in the UFC with all of his wins being finishes. The former will look to continue his positive momentum from 2023, when he went 3-0 with wins by decision, knockout and submission.

Petrino defeated Modestas Bukauskas via KO (punch) at 1:03 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
The competition level he has faced to date hasn't been great, but it's impossible to argue with the results from Petrino thus far. He landed a strong takedown in Round 1 before crushing Bukauskas with a left hook early in Round 2 which dropped him and ended the fight immediately. Petrino is a massive light heavyweight with high-end power, as Bukauskas found out first hand here. Still just 26 years of age, Petrino has won each of his first three official UFC bouts, this in addition to his knockout win on Dana White's Contender Series in September 2022. There's real potential here.
Set to face Bukauskas
Light HeavyweightUFC
July 28, 2023
Petrino will face Modestas Bukauskas in a light heavyweight bout at a UFC event on Nov. 4, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Petrino is coming off a dominant victory against Marcin Prachnio in July. It was his second straight UFC win, which pushed his record with the promotion to 2-0. Now, he'll look to remain unbeaten as a professional fighter when he squares off against Bukauskas, who has also won two straight UFC fights.
