Quickly taps out in Vegas
StrawweightUFC
March 16, 2024
McKenna lost to Jaqueline Amorin via submission (armbar) at 1:38 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was a truly dreadful performance from McKenna as a -155 favorite. Fighting for the first time since December 2022, Cory foolishly chose to engage Amorim -- a submission specialist -- in a ground battle and lasted all of 98 seconds as a result. It could have ended considerably earlier, but McKenna managed to hang on through a couple difficult spots before finally tapping out. Time is on McKenna's side given the fact she won't be 25 years of age until July, but she's fought just five times (3-2) since debuting in November 2020, and that type of workload isn't going to get the job done.

Scheduled against Amorim
StrawweightUFC
January 23, 2024
McKenna is scheduled to compete against Jaqueline Amorim in a strawweight fight at the UFC's Vegas event on March 16, per Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out all of 2023, McKenna has a fight scheduled to get back into the MMA grind for 2024. The 24-year-old's 2022 was a mixed but mostly positive bag. McKenna lost to Elise Reed but followed up the defeat with wins over Miranda Granger and Cheyanne Vlismas.
Leans on wrestling to secure win
StrawweightUFC
December 17, 2022
McKenna defeated Cheyanne Vlismas via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Give McKenna credit -- she fought to her strengths and implemented a game plan that allowed her to pull the upset. Significantly undersized and unable to match her opponent punch-for-punch, McKenna slowed this fight to a crawl over the course of the final ten minutes. She picked up 8:50 worth of control time in the final two rounds alone, allowing McKenna to secure a clear decision victory despite the fact she didn't land a ton of significant damage despite her positional advantage. This is the way McKenna is going to have to fight given her small frame and limited offensive arsenal. Cory has now won three of her first four UFC bouts.
Matches up with Vlismas
StrawweightUFC
October 4, 2022
McKenna agreed to face Cheyanne Vlismas at UFC's Dec. 17 event, Alex Behunin of MMA mania reports.
ANALYSIS
McKenna is 2-1 since she made her UFC debut in November 2020, and she's coming off a strong victory over Miranda Granger in August. Vlismas also carries a 2-1 record and hasn't fought since she defeated Mallory Martin in December of last year.
Rebounds with strong effort
StrawweightUFC
August 6, 2022
McKenna defeated Miranda Granger via submission (Von Flue choke) at 1:03 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 40 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
McKenna was upset by Elise Reed in London in March as a -300 favorite, but there would be no such struggles in this one in a fight which appeared to be an overwhelming mismatch from the very start. McKenna forced Granger to the mat at will, landing two takedowns in Round 1 and another in the shortened second frame. The three successful tries turned into 4:40 worth of control time, which eventually led to McKenna clamping on a beautiful Von Flue choke which closed the show. McKenna turned 23 years of age in July, so there is legitimate upside here, although there will almost certainly be some bumps along the way.
Next fight on the board
StrawweightUFC
May 5, 2022
McKenna will square off against Miranda Granger on the Aug. 6 UFC card, James Lynch of MMANews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McKenna took her first career loss in a fight versus Elise Reed last time out, but she has earned a pair of victories under the UFC promotion, including the Dana White Contender Seris bout versus Vanessa Demopoulos that earned her a contract. McKenna will be at a major size disadvantage in his one, yielding four inches of height and 10 inches of reach, so she will likely need to take it to the mat.
