Title shot pushed to April
January 11, 2022
Yan will face Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight title at UFC 273 on April 9, MMA reporter Ariel Helwani reports.
Sterling stole the title from Yan back in March of 2021, though Yan earned the interim title in October after Sterling withdrew from the rematch due to a neck injury. The rescheduled match between the pair was previously reported to be happening on March 5 but has apparently been pushed back by another month.

Sterling rematch confirmed
January 7, 2022
Yan will fight Aljamain Sterling for the UFC Bantamweight Championship at UFC 272 on March 5, according to Brett Okamoto of
Yan and Sterling were supposed to have their second Bantamweight championship fight at UFC 267. The latter backed out of it after persisting complications concerning his neck. So instead, Yan fought Cory Sandhagen for an interim championship and won by unanimous decision. No Mercy will try to become a two-time UFC Bantamweight Champion.
Two-time UFC bantamweight champ
October 30, 2021
Yan became the new UFC interim Bantamweight Champion on Saturday, defeating Cory Sandhagen via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi.
Yan continues to go about his business, putting forth stellar efforts against the very best the 135-pound division has to offer. It took him about a round or so to find his range in this one, as Sandhagen landed plenty of volume in Round 1. Yet, once Round 2 began, Yan took over and cruised the rest of the way. Yan has power, his boxing technique is exceptional, and he has a terrific chin. He can also grapple, although neither man landed a successful takedown here. The biggest strike of the fight was a third round knockdown for Yan. With Yan now the interim champion, he will battle Aljamain Sterling -- who Yan lost his undisputed belt to this past March via DQ -- in a unification bout. Yan was dominating that fight before the foolish foul that cost him his title. He's going to be a massive favorite over Sterling whenever the two get together for their rematch. Finally, to add to his stellar night, he'll take home an extra $50,000 after this matchup was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
Taking on Sandhagen
September 28, 2021
Yan will now fight Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267 on Oct. 30, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Yan's original opponent, Aljamain Sterling had with withdraw with a neck injury. Yan lost the UFC Bantamweight Championship due to an illegal knee back in early March to Sterling. That rematch could be rebooked at a later date, but in the interim Yan will look to beat Sandhagen who is coming off a split decision loss to TJ Dillashaw back in July.
Needs new opponent at UFC 267
September 27, 2021
Yan is in need of a new opponent for UFC 267 on Fight Island following the withdrawal of Aljamain Sterling (neck), reports.
Yan was in domination mode during his March title fight against Sterling, but he connected with an illegal knee to a downed opponent in the fourth round, and Sterling was unable to continue. That resulted in a disqualification that awarded Sterling the belt. Nonetheless, oddsmakers seemed to have their minds made up regarding who the better fighter was that night, as Yan was set to enter this matchup as a betting favorite as high as (-300). Now, it appears the UFC is looking to find a replacement opponent and book an interim title fight, as Sterling is out indefinitely following complications resulting from a post-fight neck surgery. Potential names being tossed around include Cory Sandhagen and TJ Dillashaw.
Gets bantamweight title rematch
August 3, 2021
Yan (15-2-0) is scheduled to face Aljamain Sterling (20-3-0) in a bantamweight title fight Oct. 30 at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi, Damon Martin of reports.
Yan and Sterling will get together for a rematch on Fight Island after their matchup at UFC 259 ended in the fourth round, when Yan was disqualified following an illegal knee to Sterling's head. Though Yan surrendered his title belt in the fight, he'll have a chance to win it back four months later. The loss to Sterling was Yan's first since March 2016.
