Weekly Rankings: Week 7 Value Meter

Weekly Rankings: Week 7 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday Update Complete

Following Raiders OL Trent Brown going on the COVID-19 list, the remainder of the team's starting OL is now on the COVID-19 list as high risk contacts. Their game against the Bucs is at risk of getting pushed back to Monday or Tuesday, if not another week.

Bye Weeks: Baltimore, Indianapolis, Miami, Minnesota

Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.

Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:

- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.

These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Player X vs. Player Y?" without any other mitigating factors. Of course, I welcome debate - if you think I'm wrong, let me know. But please check out the rankings first before asking your start/sit question. This truly reflects my opinion in my leagues.

These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.

Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights, roughly around 10:00 pm PT. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning. I will post at the top of the article in bold font when ranking updates are in progress and when they're complete.

I welcome debate on the rankings in the comments. Please keep it friendly.

Quarterbacks

1.Russell Wilson SEA at ARI
2.Deshaun Watson HOU vs. GB
3.*Patrick Mahomes KC at DEN
Note: ***Snow game.***
4.Kyler Murray ARZ vs. SEA
5.*Josh Allen BUF at NYJ
Note: Really struggled with the rain in the loss to the Chiefs.
6.*Matt Ryan ATL vs. DET
Note: Ryan bounced back in a big way - it helps to have Julio Jones back, to be sure. This week brings a pretty good matchup against the Lions.
7.*Aaron Rodgers GB at HOU
Note: Rodgers erase a lot of the confidence earned by his great start to the season in Sunday's loss to the Bucs. This week presents a better opportunity against the Texans.
8.Justin Herbert LAC vs. JAX
9.Ryan Tannehill TEN vs. PIT
10.Matthew Stafford DET at ATL
11.Ben Roethlisberger PIT at TEN
12.*Tom Brady TB at LV
Note: Got a 'maintenance day' on Wednesday. Of bigger concern is the Raiders' COVID issues, and whether it'll postpone this week's game.
13.*Cam Newton NE vs. SF
Note: Newton struggled to connect downfield with his wide receivers, who failed to get much separation. His running ability saved his fantasy day, at least.
14.Drew Brees NO vs. CAR
15.*Gardner Minshew JAC at LAC
Note: GTP (Garbage Time Production) saved an otherwise miserable day for Minshew.
16.*Jimmy Garoppolo SF at NE
Note: Garoppolo looked much better last week against the Rams, giving rise to the suggestion that he was fully past his high-ankle sprain. No longer listed on the injury list.
17.*Andy Dalton DAL at WAS
Note: First start was a disaster - the Cowboys were ill-prepared for the Cardinals' pass rush, and Dalton doesn't have the mobility to evade it like Dak did.
18.*Carson Wentz PHI vs. NYG
Note: With Miles Sanders and Zach Ertz out, Wentz is now down to he and center Jason Kelce among the Eagles' original 11 offensive starters.
19.Kyle Allen WAS vs. DAL
20.*Joe Burrow CIN vs. CLE
Note: Finally getting better on longer throws, though the Bengals offense sputtered in the second half after churning out 24 first-half points.
21.Jared Goff LA vs. CHI
22.Daniel Jones NYG at PHI
23.*Baker Mayfield CLE at CIN
Note: (Ribs) Expected to start this week against the Bengals after getting taken out for preventative reasons last week. Limited in Wednesday's practice.
24.Nick Foles CHI at LAR
25.*Teddy Bridgewater CAR at NO
Note: Bridgewater pulled it down to run frequently against the Bears, who were able to pressure him frequently as the game progressed.
26.*Drew Lock DEN vs. KC
Note: There's some nuance in interpreting Lock's performance against the Pats - on one hand, the Broncos didn't get into the end zone and he made some bad plays at the end of the game. On the other hand, he moved the team well (six field goals on their first six drives) and connected on a decent number of intermediate passes. I don't think it was as bad as some portray it to be.
27.*Sam Darnold NYJ vs. BUF
Note: (Shoulder) Darnold has a few more steps to progress through before being cleared, and the initial expectation is that he won't be ready in time this week. 'Looked good' at practice Wednesday and made progress again Thursday. ***Listed as questionable, but coach Adam Tase said that Darnold will start, barring any pregame setbacks.***
28.*Derek Carr LV vs. TB
Note: The Raiders' ENTIRE OL is now in the COVID-19 protocol as 'high risk contacts' based on Trent Brown's positive test. It's almost a certainty that the game will be pushed back to Monday or Tuesday, and it's possible that the game will get pushed back to another week.
29.*Joe Flacco NYJ vs. BUF
Note: Darnold is making progress - I'm going to assume that he and not Flacco will start.

Running Backs

1.Alvin Kamara NO vs. CAR
2.*Ezekiel Elliott DAL at WAS
Note: Elliott's two first-half fumbles completely altered the game flow on Monday night, and he had trouble establishing much behind the Cowboys' patchwork offensive line.
3.Derrick Henry TEN vs. PIT
4.James Conner PIT at TEN
5.*Kareem Hunt CLE at CIN
Note: (Ribs) Limited in practice both Wednesday and Thursday. ***Cleared from the injury list on Friday.***
6.*Mike Davis CAR at NO
Note: Davis is in line for another start, but has a pretty bad matchup against the Saints. (Ankle) Was in a non-contact jersey early in Wednesday's practice, but also took all of his practice reps.
7.Chris Carson SEA at ARI
8.Ronald Jones TB at LV
9.*Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC at DEN
Note: Of course Edwards-Helaire had his best yards game the week the Chiefs signed Lev Bell - now it's a question of how much work he'll get going forward.
10.Todd Gurley ATL vs. DET
11.*Boston Scott PHI vs. NYG
Note: Scott is expected to replace Miles Sanders (knee) in the starting lineup this week. I wouldn't be surprised if Corey Clement gets more action than accustomed as a result, too.
12.David Johnson HOU vs. GB
13.*Jamaal Williams GB at HOU
Note: ***Aaron Jones is not practicing Friday - moving up, waiting to hear more from the Packers.***
14.Kenyan Drake ARZ vs. SEA
15.*D'Andre Swift DET at ATL
Note: Swift was way more active and productive coming out of the bye, rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
16.*James Robinson JAC at LAC
Note: ***Snap share could increase this week with Chris Thompson going on the COVID-Reserve list.***
17.*David Montgomery CHI at LAR
Note: Had a touchdown run overturned in the win over the Panthers.
18.Josh Jacobs LV vs. TB
19.*Melvin Gordon DEN vs. KC
Note: Gordon is expected to return this week after sitting out last week with strep throat. Any discipline stemming from his DUI and speeding arrest will likely come from the league after his legal case is settled in November. Full practice Wednesday.
20.*Devonta Freeman NYG at PHI
Note: Freeman had a 73 percent snap share Sunday. That may not repeat this week with the Giants playing the Thursday game.
21.Devin Singletary BUF at NYJ
22.*Darrell Henderson LA vs. CHI
Note: ***Sat out practice Thursday with a thigh injury, but was a full-go Friday and Saturday.***
23.*J.D. McKissic WAS vs. DAL
Note: Much of McKissic's production came on the Football Team's final possessions as they were trying to catch up against the Giants, but he was more productive than Gibson.
24.Chase Edmonds ARZ vs. SEA
25.*Jerick McKinnon SF at NE
Note: McKinnon is in line for more opportunities this week with Mostert out with a high ankle sprain, but he may have to share carries with JaMycal Hasty. ***Expected to start.***
26.*Justin Jackson LAC vs. JAX
Note: Jackson had more snaps and produced more than Joshua Kelley in the Monday night game against the Saints before the bye week. (Knee) Limited in Wednesday's practice. ***Full practice Friday, listed as questionable but is expected to play.***
27.*Giovani Bernard CIN vs. CLE
Note: Joe Mixon (foot) twice exited Sunday's loss to the Colts, but his injury isn't expected to be too serious. Still, Bernard had a 48 percent snap share last week and it wouldn't be a shock if Bernard got a similar workload this week against the Browns to protect Mixon. ***Mixon has been ruled out.***
28.*Antonio Gibson WAS vs. DAL
Note: McKissic saw more snaps and was more productive than Gibson in Sunday's loss.
29.Latavius Murray NO vs. CAR
30.*Phillip Lindsay DEN vs. KC
Note: The good news - Lindsay had 101 rushing yards. The bad news - he didn't get in the end zone and wasn't targeted in the passing game.
31.*James White NE vs. SF
Note: Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday - for non-injury reasons.
32.Joshua Kelley LAC vs. JAX
33.Damien Harris NE vs. SF
34.*JaMycal Hasty SF at NE
Note: Hasty looked better than McKinnon late in Sunday's win over the Rams, but keep in mind that he was on fresh legs where everyone else had more wear.
35.Adrian Peterson DET at ATL
36.*AJ Dillon GB at HOU
Note: ***Could be in line for a much bigger role if Aaron Jones (calf) does not play.*** Jones is not expected to play.
37.*Le'Veon Bell KC at DEN
Note: Status for Week 7 is up in the air - coach Andy Reid said that he'd take a 'day-by-day' approach with Bell. ***Expected to play, role uncertain.***
38.Rex Burkhead NE vs. SF
39.La'Mical Perine NYJ vs. BUF
40.Brian Hill ATL vs. DET
41.Zack Moss BUF at NYJ
42.D'Ernest Johnson CLE at CIN
43.Benny Snell PIT at TEN
44.Frank Gore NYJ vs. BUF
45.Tony Pollard DAL at WAS
46.Corey Clement PHI vs. NYG
47.*Cam Akers LA vs. CHI
Note: So much for Akers' proposed increased workload - he saw just one offensive snap.
48.Jalen Richard LV vs. TB
49.Jeremy McNichols TEN vs. PIT
50.*Leonard Fournette TB at LV
Note: (Ankle) Inactive last week. With the way that RoJo is running, why would the Bucs change it up now? Full practice Wednesday.
51.Duke Johnson HOU vs. GB
52.Kerryon Johnson DET at ATL
53.Royce Freeman DEN vs. KC
54.Malcolm Brown LA vs. CHI
55.Travis Homer SEA at ARI
56.*Carlos Hyde SEA at ARI
Note: (Shoulder) Hyde might not take contact in practice this week and is questionable at best for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Limited in Wednesday's practice. ***Removed from the injury list and should be able to play this week.***
57.*Devine Ozigbo JAC at LAC
Note: ***Activated from the COVID-IR list.***
58.LeSean McCoy TB at LV
59.*Darrel Williams KC at DEN
Note: Williams got a little more work than initially expected Monday night, but Lev Bell is likely to play this upcoming week, limiting Williams's upside.
60.Ke'Shawn Vaughn TB at LV
61.*Samaje Perine CIN vs. CLE
Note: ***Added with Joe Mixon ruled out.***
62.Peyton Barber WAS vs. DAL
63.*Trayveon Williams CIN vs. CLE
Note: ***Added with Joe Mixon ruled out.***
64.Dion Lewis NYG at PHI
65.Devontae Booker LV vs. TB
66.*Jeff Wilson SF at NE
Note: Sat out last week with a calf injury - the Niners are hopeful he can practice Wednesday. Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Limited practices all week, listed as questionable.***
67.*Aaron Jones GB at HOU
Note: ***Not practicing Friday. Jones suffered a calf injury Thursday and is going to be a game-time decision - hopefully we'll know with plenty of time before the 1:00 p.m. ET start.*** Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette suggests that the plan is for Jones to not play, even though he's confident he could play through.***
68.*Joe Mixon CIN vs. CLE
Note: Mixon twice exited Sunday's loss with a foot injury, though the latter departure was in conjunction with the Bengals being in the two-minute drill. Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. ***Ruled out for Week 7.***
69.*Chris Thompson JAC at LAC
Note: ***Placed on the COVID-IR list by the Jaguars.***
70.*Miles Sanders PHI vs. NYG
Note: (Knee) Sanders is expected to sit out Thursday night and did not practice Tuesday. Officially ruled out for Week 7.
71.*Christian McCaffrey CAR at NO
Note: (Ankle) McCaffrey is not expected to return this week, and even Week 8 seems to be in question.
72.*Raheem Mostert SF at NE
Note: Mostert was diagnosed with a high left ankle sprain and is likely to go on injured reserve. Mostert hasn't yet gone on the IR, but he has missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. ***Officially placed on IR on Saturday.***

Wide Receivers

1.Davante Adams GB at HOU
2.DK Metcalf SEA at ARI
3.*Julio Jones ATL vs. DET
Note: (Hamstring) Sat out practice Wednesday, but was limited on Thursday. ***Cleared from the injury list.***
4.Kenny Golladay DET at ATL
5.Tyreek Hill KC at DEN
6.*Terry McLaurin WAS vs. DAL
Note: Bumping up here - love the matchup, has been productive despite horrible matchups earlier.
7.*DeAndre Hopkins ARZ vs. SEA
Note: (Ankle) Has not practiced Wednesday or Thursday. ***Returned to practice Friday, but was limited.*** Coach Kliff Kingsbury is hopeful that Hopkins will play - further complicating matters is that Hopkins' game has been moved from Sunday afternoon to Sunday night, giving us fewer pivot options.
8.Stefon Diggs BUF at NYJ
9.*Will Fuller HOU vs. GB
Note: Fuller now has touchdowns in four consecutive games.
10.Amari Cooper DAL at WAS
11.*Calvin Ridley ATL vs. DET
Note: (Elbow) Limited both Wednesday and Thursday. ***Cleared from the injury list.***
12.*Keenan Allen LAC vs. JAX

13.Tyler Lockett SEA at ARI
14.*Chris Godwin TB at LV
Note: (Hamstring) Limited practices Wednesday and Thursday. ***Removed from the injury list.***

16.Tyler Boyd CIN vs. CLE
17.Chase Claypool PIT at TEN

20.Robby Anderson CAR at NO
21.*DJ Chark JAC at LAC
Note: Chark had only 45 yards receiving despite getting a whopping 14 targets in the loss to the Lions. Limited practice Wednesday. ***Limited practice all week, but cleared from the injury list nonetheless.***
22.Cooper Kupp LA vs. CHI
23.DJ Moore CAR at NO
24.*Julian Edelman NE vs. SF
Note: (Knee) Limited participant in Wednesday's practice. ***Limited all week, as usual; listed as questionable, as usual.***
25.Allen Robinson CHI at LAR
26.*Brandin Cooks HOU vs. GB
Note: Cooks caught nine passes for 68 yards and also had a jet sweep opportunity at the goal line against Tennessee.
27.*Robert Woods LA vs. CHI
Note: ***(Groin) Held out of practice Friday, limited Saturday, but then cleared off the injury list and is expected to play Monday night.***
28.Odell Beckham CLE at CIN
29.Deebo Samuel SF at NE
30.*Mike Evans TB at LV
Note: Evans had just one catch on two targets for 10 yards in the win over the Packers. Some of this had to do with game flow - the Bucs pretty much ran the ball the entire second half. But he was clearly a secondary option last week. (Ankle) Limited participant in Thursday's practice. ***Cleared from the injury report on Friday.***
31.Mike Williams LAC vs. JAX
32.Tee Higgins CIN vs. CLE
33.*JuJu Smith-Schuster PIT at TEN

34.Travis Fulgham PHI vs. NYG
35.*Christian Kirk ARZ vs. SEA
Note: Kirk had only three targets Monday night, but didn't need to throw much at all in the second half, and he turned those three targets into 86 yards and two touchdowns.
36.*A.J. Green CIN vs. CLE
Note: Finally had a good bounce back game - eight catches for 96 yards.
37.*Tim Patrick DEN vs. KC

38.*Tre'Quan Smith NO vs. CAR
Note: ***Big bump up with both Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders out.***
39.*Jarvis Landry CLE at CIN
Note: Limited at practice Thursday - Landry also revealed that he's been playing through a broken rib suffered in Week 5. ***Despite that, he's been cleared from the injury list.***
40.Michael Gallup DAL at WAS
41.Greg Ward PHI vs. NYG
42.*Darius Slayton NYG at PHI
Note: (Foot) Limited both on Monday and Tuesday - Slayton is hoping to be able to play on Thursday night.

79.*John Hightower PHI vs. NYG
Note: Role will likely be reduced with DeSean Jackson returning.
80.*Mecole Hardman KC at DEN
Note: Hardman failed to make an impact despite Sammy Watkins being out - it's difficult to keep him rostered if you can't even feel comfortable using him as a bye-week fill-in, despite his upside.

Note: Suffered a 'minor' ankle sprain in the win over the Texans. Full practice Thursday.

Tonyan didn't practice Thursday, but instead worked out with a trainer on the side. ***Limited practice Friday, expected to play but the pregame warmup matters.***
12.*Rob Gronkowski TB at LV

Note: ***Bumped up with Austin Hooper ruled out.***
18.Gerald Everett LA vs. CHI
19.*Anthony Firkser TEN vs. PIT
Note: A good portion of Firkser's 113-yard day came before Jonnu Smith got hurt. Smith practiced fully Thursday, so this opportunity doesn't look as great as it once did.
20.Eric Ebron PIT at TEN
21.*Logan Thomas WAS vs. DAL
Note: (Neck) Full practice Thursday.
22.*Tyler Kroft BUF at NYJ
Note: ***Only regular tight end for the Bills that's not on the COVID-reserve list.***
23.*Tyler Higbee LA vs. CHI
Note: ***(Hand) Listed as questionable but is expected to play - but perhaps this means he'll block more, and the receptions could fall to Gerald Everett instead.***

3.*DeAndre Hopkins ARZ vs. SEA

28.*A.J. Brown TEN vs. PIT
Note: (Knee) Did not practice Thursday after practicing Wednesday. ***Full practice Friday.***

30.Kenyan Drake ARZ vs. SEA
31.Todd Gurley ATL vs. DET

Note: (Groin) Did not practice Thursday. ***Downgraded to doubtful.***

59.*Mike Evans TB at LV
Note: Evans had just one catch on two targets for 10 yards in the win over the Packers. Some of this had to do with game flow - the Bucs pretty much ran the ball the entire second half.
