Hesson didn't exactly step into favorable conditions for the bowl game, as the game featured a torrential downpour throughout, leading to sloppy play and a number of turnovers from both teams. It doesn't provide much of an indication of where the redshirt sophomore will stand in the pecking order heading into 2024, but he was behind Brett Gabbert and Aveon Smith heading into this season and, despite Smith hitting the transfer portal, Maddox Kopp figures to join competition for the starting gig in 2024.
