The redshirt-senior running back played second fiddle to the now departed Hassan Hall last season where he managed to rack up 87 carries for 420 yards and five touchdowns. Smith will battle for the starting job with transfer running back Trey Cooley from Louisville. In his sophomore season at Louisville last year, Cooley was lost in the mix of a crowded backfield. Cooley managed just 59 carries for 278 yards and two touchdowns. It will be interesting to see if one of these two running backs can get a hold of the starting job or if it will be running back by committee in the 2023 season. Read Past Outlooks
