DFS College Basketball: Tuesday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Tuesday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Today's college hoops slate has a common pool of five games, once again revolving around an Iowa Hawkeyes matchup. As expected, the Northwestern-Iowa game easily has the highest over/under total on the board so this is my starting point for today's fantasy selections.

Targets

1.  Boo Buie, G, Northwestern ($6,800 DK, $6,800 FD)

This is the perfect buy-low opportunity for Buie. He's playing against the second worst defense in the Big Ten (in terms of adjusted efficiency) and he's playing in a game that should have close to 160 total points. The perfect recipe for productive point guard. Buie is scorching hot from behind the arc this season, having made 14-of-26 three-point attempts, noteworthy because Iowa is vulnerable against three-pointers. All in all, Buie offers a high ceiling with a reasonable salary.

2.  Romello White, F, Mississippi ($6,300 DK, $6,600 FD)

The key note for this game is that the Rebels have a decent edge when it comes to rebounding. This game has the second highest over/under total on the board, so White should see plenty of opportunities to secure extra rebounds. White has a long track record dating back to his days at Arizona State so he offers a high floor with high potential. The other Rebels that might benefit from this matchup are KJ Buffen ($5,700 DK, $5,600 FD) and Luis Rodriguez ($6,900 DK, $6,900 FD).

3.  Ron Harper, G/F, Rutgers ($8,800 DK, $8,300 FD)

Rutgers is projected to score around 72 points tonight and Harper has a chance to steal the show. Harper leads the team in scoring and currently has the thirteenth highest offensive efficiency rating in the country among all players that use at least 20 percent of possessions. Purdue has been weak against two-point baskets this season, so I'm thinking Harper will exploit the weakness given that he's currently shooting 61 percent on two-point attempts.

Side note: senior point guard Jacob Young ($7,200 DK, $7,600 FD) is currently listed as questionable and appears on track to play, although there's still some uncertainty with his status.

DraftKings Exclusive - LSU Tigers

If you're playing DraftKings, then I'd strongly recommend grabbing a Tiger or two. LSU is currently projected to score around 75 points, the highest point total of any team on the slate other than Iowa.  The Tigers are fairly top-heavy when it comes to fantasy options. The five-star freshman Cam Thomas ($7,000) leads the team in scoring. Trendon Watford ($9,200) has the second-highest offensive efficiency rating in the country among players that use at least 24 percent of possessions. Darius Days ($7,100) leads the team in rebounding. Javonte Smart ($7,600), arguably the team's best shooter, is currently listed as questionable but appears on track to suit up. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Thomas given the salary, but any of them have big fantasy potential.

Fades

1.  Harlond Beverly, G, Miami ($7,100 DK, $4,900 FD)

Huge salary split. From a DraftKings perspective, I'm firmly passing. Beverly hasn't done much in terms of fantasy points in his last couple games and today's matchup won't help. Virginia Tech is solid on defense, with its adjusted efficiency ranking at No. 40 per KenPom. Beverly has one of the lowest offensive efficiency ratings on the team so I'm not expecting him to improve from his recent performances.

2.  Jaden Shackelford, G, Alabama ($6,300 DK, $6,600 FD)

Alabama has a tough challenge today. The Rebels currently have the fifth-best defense in the country, per KenPom. Digging deeper, the Rebels are defending two-point shots at the third best rate in the country, which doesn't bode well for the Crimson Tide, as they have been terribly inefficient from behind the arc this season. Shackelford is only making 35 percent of his two-point attempts, so if he can't get any three-pointers to fall then he's in store for a rough game.

3.  Eric Hunter, F, Purdue ($6,100 DK, $6,300 FD)

Hunter has the worst offensive efficiency rating among starting Boilermakers, and now he's about to go against a Rutgers defense that is currently ranked No. 15 in the country in terms of adjusted efficiency. Hunter is averaging 31 minutes per game and also has one of the highest usage rates on the team, so it's possible I'll get burned on this one, but ultimately I'm fading him due to the matchup combined with his inefficiency.
