Optioned to Sugar Land
The Astros optioned Coleman to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Coleman struggled heavily in the majors last season, posting an 8.84 ERA and 2.02 WHIP across 18.1 innings with the Royals. After being traded to Houston in December, Coleman's troubles have continued to plague him in spring training, and he will likely remain in Triple-A until a noticeable improvement is made on the mound.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Coleman made 68 appearances during his first full season in the bigs, which was tied for the 14th-most among qualified relievers. The 26-year-old opened the year pitching in low-pressure spots for the Royals, but he ascended the leverage ladder and was one of Kansas City's primary setup men by mid-summer. Coleman mixes only two pitches - a 97.5 mph fastball (57% usage) and slider (42%) that yielded 71 strikeouts across his 68 innings for a 24.6% strikeout rate that was slightly above league average. However, the right-hander walked nearly five batters per nine innings, which was 8th-worst among relievers and will need to improve in 2023 to remain in a higher-leverage role. However, there is room for growth, and if Coleman pitches well this season, saves may be on the horizon under new Royals manager Matt Quatraro.
