2024 Fantasy Outlook
Marte was limited to only 86 games as he missed time due to migraines, then had his season end in early August due to a right groin issue. It's unclear if Marte's injury is related to the double-groin surgery he underwent in November 2022, but he reportedly does not need more offseason surgery and will be healthy in the spring. After posting a wRC+ between 108 and 134 the previous five seasons, Marte's 76 mark was a career low. Marte's batted ball skills were as good, or better than the previous two seasons where he posted a 132 and 134 wRC+. Marte's average exit velocity was its highest since 2019, and his hard-hit rate was a career best. Barrel percentage was down a bit, piggybacking hitting fewer fly balls. Marte was 24-for-28 in stolen base attempts. All signs point to a rebound but expecting a full bounce back from an injury-prone 35-year-old is a slippery slope. There are ample encouraging signs to take a chance, just don't bank on a full return, and have a backup plan at the ready. Read Past Outlooks
Spring struggles continue
Marte went 0-for-2 in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start in right field and batting fifth, Marte flied out to center field in the second inning before popping out to second base in the fourth. The Mets were hoping the 35-year-old outfielder would return to form after a healthy offseason, but so far this spring Marte is batting a worrying .091 (2-for-22) with zero extra-base hits or steals and a 1:3 BB:K. He's still locked into the starting role in right field and has time yet in camp to turn things around, but after he posted a career-worst .248 batting average and .625 OPS in 2023, expectations for Marte have never been lower.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be out for 2023
Marte, who is on the injured list with a strained right groin, may not be reinstated before the end of the season, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
The Mets believe Marte's current groin issues are related to the surgeries he underwent last November, which could help explain his career-worst .625 OPS through 86 games this year. The club is now 12 games under .500 after selling at the trade deadline, so there's no reason to rush back the veteran outfielder down the stretch. Marte still has two years and over $40 million remaining on his contract, and the Mets are likely hoping he can return to form in 2024 before potentially considering moving on.

Marte did well enough in his debut with the Mets even though many will likely label it a disappointment for what he did not do. Marte's regular season was prematurely ended with a broken finger after being hit by a pitch and he missed 34 games in all in the regular season. His run production numbers were close to what he did between Miami and Oakland in 2021, but there was a dramatic drop in both his stolen base attempts as well as his success rate as his success fell from 90% to 67%. Buck Showalter has never been a huge fan of aggressively stealing games, so that kind of success rate could put a cap on what Marte does in 2023 even with the new rules in play. He did bounce back from a poor success rate in 2018 by converting 86% of his attempts from 2019-2021 so he absolutely deserves another crack at it. The next plateau will be him exceeding 550 plate appearances, something he has done but once in the previous six full seasons.
