Listed as emergency

August 19, 2021
Ratugolea is listed as an emergency for Round 23 against Melbourne.
ANALYSIS
Ratugolea had suffered a corked quad during Round 22 and won't necessarily play this week, but at least he's able if needed as a last resort. Heading into the finals, he'll be another useful piece when fit.

Takes blow to quad

August 14, 2021
Ratugolea suffered a corked quad during Round 22 against St Kilda, according to Sarah Black of AFL.com.
ANALYSIS
Ratugolea didn't last long into this game as the Cats went to the top of the ladder. It remains to be seen how long this will keep him out, though a run in the finals would give him plenty of time to return.
Game-high tying four goals
FGeelong Cats
July 25, 2021
Ratugolea benefitted from six disposals, four goals, three marks and a pair of tackles Sunday as Geelong defeated Richmond 95-57 at MCG.
ANALYSIS
Raugolea set a personal-best for goals scored as one half of a Geelong duo - the other, Tom Hawkins - that accounted for more than half of the Tigers total majors in Saturday's contest. That, paired with the 23 year-old's third straight appearance having produced multiple marks and tackles in the same game, found the forward / ruck putting up his best fantasy score (61 points) since Round 9 and second-highest of the year.
Late call-up Friday

May 7, 2021
Esava Ratugolea will return to the lineup against the Tigers on Friday, replacing Rhys Stanley, who comes out of the side.
ANALYSIS
Ratugolea will play his first game since round 18, 2020, an absence of almost eight months. This is an interesting move by the coaching staff given the recent play of Stanley. Ratugolea is unlikely to shift the fantasy pendulum but he certainly gives the team a different look in the ruck.
In starting lineup
FGeelong Cats
August 22, 2020
Ratugolea (soreness) is returning to the lineup Saturday against Geelong after a three-match absence.
ANALYSIS
The Cats have actually been more efficient with Ratugolea out of their lineup as they have kicked three of their four highest scores without him. Despite that stat, Ratugolea is set to make his return for Round 13 and his status for the next match could depend on how efficient the offense functions with him back in it.
Set for another absence

General Soreness
August 13, 2020
Ratugolea (soreness) will miss a second straight game Friday versus Port Adelaide, Mitch Cleary of the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ratugolea's absence was deemed management last week, but the fact that he's out another week suggests there may be a bit more behind it. He'll aim to get back in the mix in short order.
