Docherty is set to undergo chemotherapy for testicular cancer picked up in 2020 and is expected to return in time for preseason in 2022.
ANALYSIS
With the season all but over for the Blues, Docherty can focus on his personal health in order to continue his career. He logged 24.3 disposals and 7.6 marks per game through 14 appearances in 2021, and an ankle injury has kept him out since the end of June.

Done for home, away season

Ankle
July 27, 2021
Docherty (ankle) has been ruled out for the rest of the home-and-away season, according to Director of High Performance Andrew Russell.
ANALYSIS
Docherty's only chance to play again in 2021 is if the Blues make the finals, and that doesn't look too likely ahead of Round 20. If he doesn't play again, Docherty would finish the season with solid averages of 24.3 disposals and 7.6 marks made per game.

Ankle
June 30, 2021
Docherty underwent ankle surgery Wednesday and may miss the rest of the season, per the Herald Sun.
ANALYSIS
Docherty had 16 disposals and nine marks versus Adelaide in Round 15 prior to suffering the ankle injury. A timeline for the defender's return has yet to be announced, but with surgery involved, he may be done for the year.
21 disposals, eight marks v. GWS
DCarlton Blues
June 20, 2021
Docherty hauled in 21 disposals, eight marks, a pair of tackles and a single clearance Saturday as Carlton fell to GWS 102-66 at Giants Stadium.
ANALYSIS
Docherty closed out Saturday's loss one of four Carlton players with 20 or more disposals and tied with Harry McKay and Matthew Kennedy as the Blues' No. 2 in marks versus GWS. The 27 year-old exits Round 14 now ranked the AFL's No. 5 in total kicks (239) and No. 9 in total marks (98), and with a fantasy score per game average of 100.5, currently chasing down North Melbourne's Aaron Hall as the fifth--most productive fantasy option for selection at defender.
26 disposals, six marks
DCarlton Blues
May 22, 2021
Docherty seized 26 disposals, six marks, five tackles and four clearances Saturday as Carlton defeated Hawthorn 86-63 at MCG.
ANALYSIS
Docherty posted double-digit kick and handball totals for a second-consecutive week and just the second time this season in Saturday's contest. He too set a new yearly mark for inside 50s (6) and brought his aggregate for tackles over his last two showings to 11 in the victory. The 27 year-old has remained a dominant fantasy presence since a hiccup of a performance (77 points) to kick off the month of May, averaging 112.3 points a game in his three appearances since then. That, to no small degree, is the reason why Docherty is currently chasing only North Melbourne's Jack Ziebell, Sydney's Callum Mills and Adelaide's Rory Laird as the AFL's best option for selection at defender heading into Round 11.
27 disposals, four marks in loss
DCarlton Blues
May 17, 2021
Docherty netted 27 disposals, six tackles, four marks and clearances each and a single goal assist Sunday as Carlton fell to Melbourne 94-68 at MCG.
ANALYSIS
A season-high 15 handballs led Docherty to tie Patrick Cripps and Ed Curnow as Carlton's No. 2 in disposals versus Melbourne while his four clearances bested a previous season-high of two. The 27 year-old has now combined for 229 fantasy points in Carlton's last two outings and is currently one of only four defenders in the AFL sporting a fantasy score per game average of 100 or better.
