Latest Fantasy Rumors
Needs to take hometown discount?
The Panthers might need Reinhart, who can become an unrestricted free agent this summer, to take a hometown discount to make his next contract fit within their cap plans, according to Michael Russo and Shayna Goldman of The Athletic on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Reinhart is coming off a three-year, $19.5 million contract, but he's due for a big raise after scoring 57 goals and 94 points in 82 regular-season contests in 2023-24. He's also provided eight goals and 12 points through 16 playoff appearances this year. Reinhart had never reached the 35-goal milestone in any season before 2023-24, which might concern Florida, especially since his regular-season shooting percentage this season was 24.5, a significant increase from his career average of 15.6. However, he recorded 82 points in 78 outings in 2021-22. He also plays well defensively and is still in his prime at 28 years of age, so there are reasons to believe Reinhart can be terrific through the life of a new long-term contract, even if his goal-scoring regresses somewhat.

Reinhart was a solid player in his first half-dozen NHL seasons, all with the Sabres, but it took a move to the Panthers this past year to unlock his true potential. Reinhart finished with career-best marks in goals (33) and points (82), while his 31 points with the man advantage were ten more than any other prior campaign. Florida added Matthew Tkachuk in a trade this past summer, but sent Jonathan Huberdeau back to Calgary in the same deal, meaning Reinhart should once again be locked into a top-six, No. 1 power-play role on one of the NHL's very best teams. It's a situation to target from a fantasy perspective.
