Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Gonzalez has spent back-to-back seasons in the majors with the White Sox, but has made only 206 plate appearances including a .194/.208/.376 slash line in 2023. The 27-year-old's main value to the team seems to be in a utility role as he saw starts in right field, left field, shortstop and also filled in at third base and centerfield while seeing the bulk of his playing time at second base. Gonzalez will compete for the utility man role again in 2024, but his struggles at the plate combined with multiple additions in the infield could see him on the outside looking in for playing time. Walks off Rays
Gonzalez went 1-for-1 with an RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Gonzalez, who entered as a pinch runner for Dominic Smith in the 10th inning, stayed in the game to play first base, then delivered the game-winning run in the 12th with a single just inside the line in right field. The utility infielder has been a serviceable piece for manager Alex Cora, who has deployed him at shortstop and first base, positions where Boston's regulars have suffered significant injuries. Gonzalez has hit safely in six of eight games, going 6-for-19 (.316) with two steals, one RBI and two runs scored.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Stint on injured list likely
The Red Sox are expected to place either Gonzalez or Rafael Devers on the injured list to make room on the roster for Bobby Dalbec, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cotillo hears that Gonzalez, who is battling a left wrist sprain, is the more likely IL move of the two, but Devers is also a possibility due to a left shoulder issue. Gonzalez was just recalled earlier this week and suffered the injury Wednesday in his first start. If he does go on the IL, it's expected to be a relatively brief absence.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Gonzalez spent the first four months of 2022 in the minors but joined the White Sox in mid-August and enjoyed a brief run as a lineup regular. The 26-year-old got off to a hot start with an .856 OPS in his first 15 games, but he hit only .122 the rest of the way. He also struggled at the Triple-A level last season with a .620 OPS and 33.3 percent strikeout rate, and he doesn't stand out defensively. Gonzalez could see some chances in 2023 as a utility infielder for Chicago, but the team will likely be in trouble if he's seeing consistent starts.
